@jaycoo is my twitter tag. Being called John Cooper is always a bit of a lottery to try to get a decent user name when trying to register for a service. I happened across jaycoo as jaycee (JC) was not available. Just thought I would clear that up. In a years time when twitter is old hat and used by pensioners I shall probably regret using the tag as my blog name.

As I mention above I am John Cooper. I started a mobile consultancy (Pyxis Ventures) in March 2009 to evangelise about mobile to those that would like to be educated and that need a little nudge in the right direction (Pyxis is ancient greek for mariners compass). Longer term I am looking to deal with brand/media companies to define their strategies. I am having those conversations but my old life keeps me busy dealing with mobile applications and IP. I know the people who know the people etc I am having fun running my own business, your perspective on life changes when your decisions can directly influence whether the family eats in three months time. It is my job, I am in it for the long term, it is something that I always wanted to do.

I have worked in mobile for 12 years, most of those with Teleca, a software services company dealing in the Telecoms sector. I spent the last two years of my time there as Managing Director so I must have done something right. Teleca had a big influence on what I do and how I do it. It is also the reason why I got into mobile. I have worked with a good few of the mobile companies in the US and Europe and a few in Asia.

Before any of the above I have also worked for Marconi Space, IBM and BAe/SEMA. I went to University in the middle somewhere when I had decided what I wanted to do with my life (I have to thank Marconi for that actually).

I am an engineer at heart but I like the social interaction that comes with meeting customers and the commercial side of business.

I live in Hampshire, just on the edge of the South Downs, nice place to live. I am a real gadget fan, I like all technology but I do have a leaning towards connected devices – its the future you know :-) . I like Twitter (@jaycoo) not such a great fan of (Facebook). Love my iPhone, had some great Nokia’s in my time as well.
